Solution for Notches on Film Edges and Uneven Stacking of Diecutting Machines

In the production of functional films, electrostatic issues in diecutting processes are deeply intertwined with film material properties and production workflows. Seemingly minor charge accumulation can compromise product accuracy and yield via Electrostatic Attraction (ESA). Functional films (e.g., PET, PI films, optical films) are mostly polymeric insulating materials with poor intrinsic conductivity. Charges cannot dissipate naturally, making them highly susceptible to static buildup and posing risks of ESAinduced attraction.

During diecutting operations, the film undergoes repeated “contactseparation” cycles: unwinding, precision slitting by diecutting blades, punch forming, and final discharge & stacking. Friction between the film and guide rollers, abrupt separation after diecut punching (which aggravates charge transfer), plus contact friction against conveying components all cause charges to accumulate on film surfaces and voltage to surge, triggering intense ESA attraction

Charged films actively adsorb airborne dust, ambient fibers, and tiny film debris generated during punching. These contaminants do not adhere randomly; they predominantly stick to cut edges, altering local physical profiles, interfering with cutting paths, and ultimately resulting in visible burrs and irregular notches on finished film edges. Worse still, films carrying contaminants and residual static may suffer alignment deviations in downstream processes due to electrostatic repulsion or barrier effects from contaminants. For instance,  lines cannot be precisely aligned during lamination, further lowering product yield. Increased defective output also calls for manual screening and rework, dragging down production efficiency.

To address ESArelated challenges from static electricity on diecutters, Yanping Electrostatics has developed a dedicated customized solution. Highlyadaptable static eliminators are installed at the discharge end of diecutting machines to neutralize residual surface charges and eliminate the driving force behind ESA attraction. This prevents dust, fibers and punch debris from adhering to film edges. Static elimination also eliminates film “jitter” caused by likecharge repulsion during discharge, enabling smooth stacking without manual repositioning by operators.
